Trial Setup Tips

Last updated: October 23, 2026

When you start a Lextree trial, you are the account admin. You can choose which modules your team sees, invite colleagues, and customize the information you track. This tutorial walks through those three settings changes so you can focus your trial on the work that matters to you.

Step 1: Choose your modules

Video: 0:11

All 21 modules are on when you start your trial. Narrowing them to the areas you want to evaluate makes Lextree easier to explore.

  1. Open Admin → Settings → Modules.
  2. Review the module descriptions and keep the modules relevant to your trial turned on.
  3. Turn off the modules you do not need right now.
  4. Select Save and Refresh and review the confirmation for the modules you are turning off.

Start with your team’s main use case. For example, focus on contract management, grants for higher education or non-profits, or real estate. The video shows a contract management setup at 0:38 and introduces the grants and real estate modules at 1:03.

The left navigation updates after you save. Turning off a module hides it without deleting its data, and you can turn it back on later. Each colleague also needs permission to access a module before it appears in their navigation.

See Module settings for more detail.

Step 2: Invite your colleagues

Invite colleagues into the same trial subscription so you can evaluate Lextree together. Set each person’s roles and module access to match the work they will do.

  1. Open Admin → Access → People.
  2. Select New invite and enter your colleague’s email address.
  3. Review the Admin and Reporter roles. Enable Admin for someone who will help manage the account. Enable Reporter for someone who needs read access across the subscription through Reports.
  4. Set access for each module: Editor to view and edit records, Viewer for view-only access, or None to hide the module from that person.
  5. Review the record access setting, then select Save to send the invitation.

Ask each colleague to accept using the email address you invited. Repeat for everyone helping with your trial.

Admin access and module permissions serve different purposes: an admin who will work with records also needs the appropriate module access. Reporter access reaches across the subscription through Reports, so review it separately from the person’s module permissions.

The video explains roles and module access at 1:47. See Inviting someone for details about permissions, plan availability, and seats.

Step 3: Customize field settings

Video: 2:34

Tailor the fields to the information your team needs. Try editing a dropdown list and adding a custom field, then check how those changes appear to users.

Edit a dropdown list

Video: 3:27

  1. Open Admin → Settings → Field Settings.
  2. Select the record type you want to customize.
  3. Open a configurable dropdown field and edit its options to match your team’s terminology.
  4. Save your changes.

System fields are generally locked, but some system dropdowns allow you to edit their options. If an option is already in use, restrictions may prevent you from changing or deleting it. See Custom Fields for the rules.

Add a custom field

Video: 3:57

  1. In the same record type’s field settings, add a custom field.
  2. Give it a clear label and choose the field type that fits the information you want to capture.
  3. Configure any options the field needs and save your changes.

Choose the field type carefully: it cannot be changed after the field is created. Field settings apply to everyone in your account.

Check the changes as a user

Video: 4:37

Open a record of the type you customized and review its form. Check that the dropdown offers your updated choices and that the new field is available to fill in.

Then review the record’s list and, if available in your plan, Reports to see how you can use the customized information. At 5:16, the video shows how field changes carry through Lextree.

For more configuration options, see Custom Fields.
