Welcome & navigation
Last updated: September 5, 2026
Lextree organizes everything around the records your organization keeps — entities, contracts, policies, filings — and the documents, dates, and tasks attached to them. This page is a quick tour of the navigation.
The left navigation
The sidebar is grouped top to bottom:
- Dashboard — your at-a-glance home (see The Dashboard).
- Modules — the compliance areas your organization uses (Legal Entities, Contracts, Insurance, and so on). Each module expands to reveal what’s inside; click a record type to open its list.
- Records — your shared directory of Organizations and People used across every module.
- Activity — cross-module views that pull together your Calendar, Attachments, Workflows, Reports, and Trash.
- Admin — account management: access, data tools, logs, and settings (visible to account admins).
- Help — this documentation.
You see only the modules your organization has enabled and your role can access, so your sidebar may be shorter than the full list.
Working with records
Most work follows the same shape everywhere in Lextree, so once you’ve learned one module you’ve largely learned them all.
The basic pattern
- Open a record type to see its list — a filterable grid. Use the filter row beneath the column headers to narrow it.
- Click New to add a record; click any row to open it.
- A record’s detail page has three areas: a System fields band across the top, your custom fields and related-records lists in the wide column, and Calendar, Attachments, and Workflows plus the timeline in the narrow column — stacking in that same order on narrow screens. When a record has both empty and populated related-records lists, a Hide N empty lists button appears so you can focus on what’s actually there; click it again (Show N empty lists) to bring them back.
Records that need related records first
Some record types aren’t usable until their first related records exist — a contract needs its parties and a filed original document, for example. Until then, an amber notice at the top of the record names what’s missing, with an Add button for each item. The create form for that record type warns you up front that those related records get added after you save. If the record you add itself needs its own first related records, a small notice with an Open button appears so you can continue the chain.
Create your first record
Head to the module you want to work in — any module works exactly the same way.
- Open Modules, pick a module and record type, and click New.
- Fill in the fields. Where one references an organization or person you don’t have yet, click + New beside it to create one inline without leaving the form.
- Save.
The top bar
The top right of every page holds the notifications bell, your account menu, and a button to collapse or expand the sidebar. The magnifying-glass icon opens search if your account has all-record access, so you can jump straight to a record or a document without navigating there. See Signing in & your profile for the account menu.
