Why can't I see something?
Last updated: October 19, 2026
When something isn’t where you expect it, the cause is almost always your access or your plan working as designed, not a fault. Find your case below. Each section names the usual reasons and points to the page that explains it in full.
A module is missing from the navigation
A module shows in the Modules section only if an admin has granted it to you and it is switched on for your subscription.
- You don’t have access to it. An admin hasn’t given you Viewer or Editor on that module, and being an admin doesn’t change that. Ask an admin to grant it. Roles explains what each one allows.
- It’s switched off. An admin can turn a whole module off, and it then disappears for everyone. The records in it are not deleted. See Modules in Settings.
If you follow a link to a module you can’t open, you see an empty list, or Resource Not Found for a single record. It looks the same as if the module weren’t there.
A record is missing
- It hasn’t been shared with you. Where an Enterprise plan uses access groups, someone whose record access is limited to chosen groups sees only the records shared with their groups or with all users. Organizations and people are always listed under Records; sharing hides the records attached to them. See how sharing is set.
- The record, or something it belongs to, is in the trash. Trashing a record also trashes its related records. Look in Trash under the module.
- The list is filtered. A layout you saved reopens with its filters in place, and Reset on the list page clears them. See Saving your own layout.
The search icon is missing
The magnifying glass appears only for all-access users, which means people whose record access is All records. See Who has search.
A button is greyed out or missing
- New, Edit, and Delete aren’t there at all. You’re a Viewer in that module. Export stays, but it is greyed out until you select rows. See Who can export.
- An add button on a related list looks dimmed. Click it. It says why: either those records are created elsewhere, or you have view-only access in that module. See Working with records.
- A workflow is visible to you but you can’t act on it. Ticking items, changing the status, and commenting are limited to participants, and an editor of the record’s module can join a workflow first. See Participants and requests. A workflow that is On Hold, Completed, or Cancelled is locked until its status changes. See When a workflow is locked.
- You hold a guest membership. A guest can only view records, in any module, and can’t take part in workflows. See Roles.
Reminder and notification emails are missing
- Email starts off. Every notification category begins with in-app switched on and email switched off. To get email, switch it on per category in Notification Preferences on your Profile page. See Your notification preferences.
- They’re bundled. You may have chosen a daily or weekly digest rather than an email every few minutes. See Frequency and delivery.
- Your membership is paused. People who are deactivated or leaving get no notifications, and while a subscription’s access is paused, its notifications wait until access returns.
Workflows, reports, charts or logs are missing
These appear only on plans that include them. Lextree leaves them out of the sidebar instead of showing them greyed out. See Plans and features. Some also depend on your role:
- Reports need the Reporter role as well. An admin grants it per person, and a guest can’t hold it. See Reports.
- Charts live inside the Entity Ownership module, so you need access to that module too. See Entity Ownership Charts.
- Logs, Access, Data Tools, and Settings are for admins only. See Logs and Access.
Every page says Access Restricted
Either your subscription’s access has paused, because its trial ran out or a payment isn’t made, or your own membership has been deactivated. The page tells you which. When access pauses explains each case and what brings access back.
If none of these fits, ask the Lextree team. The Glossary defines the terms used on this page.
