How we calculate this
Every deadline in this tool follows one formula: how many things you have, multiplied by how often each one is due, multiplied by how many of them apply to you. A trademark renewal, a quarterly payroll return, and an annual report each get counted this way, then rolled into your total.
The US baseline comes from state annual-report and franchise-tax rules across all 50 states, plus federal filings from the IRS, EEOC, and OSHA. Numbers outside the US use the median from a 10-country sample of typical foreign subsidiaries, spanning 21 to 102 deadlines a year depending on the country's VAT, payroll, and corporate filing calendar.
Some figures have no published source. Where that's true, we built and marked an estimate you can adjust below, using company-wide research divided across your entity count. This calculator was last updated September 17, 2026.
- Non-US counts are medians of a 10-country sample whose totals range from roughly 20 to over 100 deadlines a year; the calculator does not know which countries you operate in.
- Event-driven filings abroad (director changes, share transfers, beneficial-owner updates, work permits) are excluded and can add several dated deadlines a year.
- Deadlines are counted, not weighted. The result measures tracking burden, not effort or dollar cost.
- Regulatory thresholds (EEO-1 100 employees or 50 with a federal contract, ACA 50 full-time-equivalents, OSHA 300A posting and the 20/100/250-employee electronic submission tiers, EPCRA Tier II chemical quantities, sales tax filing frequency by liability volume) are assumed met.
- Contract, counterparty, insurance-policy, licence, lease, domain, board-cadence, inspection, certification and signing-authority counts are editorial estimates. A real search for a published survey behind each one found none, and every such item is marked confidence: low with its reasoning in the range.
- Multi-year obligations (trademark and patent maintenance, UCC continuations, lease renewal options, grant closeout) are amortized to an annual rate rather than shown as lump events.
- US companies are exempt from BOI reporting to FinCEN under the March 2025 interim final rule, so it is counted as zero; foreign entities registered to do business in a US state remain reporting companies on an event-driven basis: https://www.fincen.gov/boi
- The spreadsheet error rate quoted in the results is Panko's current weighted average across nine field audits of 163 operational spreadsheets: https://panko.com/ssr/Audits.html
Every item above cites a source or is flagged as an estimate where none exists.
